Lissa LeGrand

Announcer

A graduate of Vanderbilt University and the Grove School of Music, Lissa LeGrand has known professional lives as a Shakespearean actress and a rock-n-roll bass player, travelling coast to coast, with periods of residence in Provincetown, MA, and Los Angeles, CA. Her longest “gig” however, has been behind a radio microphone. After a stint at WXPN-Philadelphia, Lissa came home to Birmingham in 1981 to host her own classical music and late-night jazz shows for WBHM.

In the ensuing decades, she has enjoyed many different roles at WBHM including announcer, classical music programmer, producer, and even Operations Manager (before the first computer or CD arrived at the station!). She also produced features for WBHM’s popular arts magazine “Tapestry.”

Lissa presently serves as a news wrangler, announcer, and board operator for the Alabama Radio Reading Service, and fills in periodically at WBHM as host for “All Things Considered.”

For Lissa, life is full! In addition to her work at WBHM/ARRS, she is a writer, composer, and still plays bass. You can often see her in the orchestra pit at the Virginia Samford Theater, among others. Lissa loves to travel and is passionate about caring for our beautiful Earth!
